Expanding the Talent Pipeline

Secondary Education

The SEVA-PORT collaborative is actively working with the region’s career and technical education centers to launch a comprehensive modeling and simulation curriculum.  The curriculum will be available at Suffolk’s Pruden Center in Fall 2008.  High school students will be introduced to the basic concepts of modeling and simulation and will practice their classroom lessons using state-of-the-art software and equipment.  Teacher training initiatives will be developed to further introduce teachers to these new technologies and how they can be integrated into various disciplines.

In addition, young people will have the opportunity to enroll in exciting summer technology camps throughout the SEVA-PORT region.  These camps are FREE to those who meet eligibility requirements.  Campers, ages 16-18, can choose technology focus areas including modeling and simulation, gaming, website design, and computer networking.  SEVA-PORT summer camps are a collaborative effort with Tidewater Community College and the Urban League of Hampton Roads.
