PROJECT AREAS - Modeling and simulation

What is Modeling and Simulation?

Modeling and Simulation (M&S) is a growing field that uses computer applications to model and simulate real-world scenarios.  This dynamic technology is utilized in engineering, science, health science, business, education, and many other disciplines.  Applications include geospatial technologies (i.e. GPS, GIS, remote sensing), gaming, medical and scientific imaging, animation, engineering, and architectural drawing. Modeling and simulation is used to plan traffic evacuation routes, weather forecasts, and training flight simulators. People who work with M&S applications typically have an interest and skill in computers, math, engineering or science.  There are a variety of occupations in the M&S arena.  While a higher level degree may be needed for careers such as M&S software engineers, entry-level training may be needed for support positions such as a database administrator or lab technician.  All of these positions support the region’s growing field of modeling and simulation.
