About Us

virginiaThe Southeastern Virginia Partnership for Regional Transformation (SEVA-PORT) was awarded a $5 million WIRED grant in July 2007.  SEVA-PORT’s mission is to integrate, enhance and build linkages between the emerging industry of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and the expanding Port-related industries of Transportation, Warehousing and Distribution (TWD), while at the same time reducing the human costs by developing the skills and talent of dislocated workers and untapped labor pools.

Members of the Greater Peninsula, Hampton Roads and Crater Workforce Investment Boards and their support organizations (Peninsula Council for Workforce Development, Opportunity Inc. and Crater Regional Workforce Investment Group) have leveraged existing region-wide partnerships to establish a broad-based coalition of over 35 senior-level leaders in economic development, workforce development, civic, business, education, local, state and federal government, and entrepreneurial organizations from the southeastern region of Virginia.  The SEVA-PORT initiative focuses on aligning workforce, economic development and education program planning and delivery with the current and emerging demands of a dramatically growing port in order to diversify and expand the economy and increase higher paying job opportunities.

WiredWorkforce Innovation in
Regional Economic Development

In November 2005, the U.S. Department of Labor Employment & Training Administration announced a competition to assist regions in developing innovative approaches to economic and workforce transformation. Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) integrates economic and workforce development activities, demonstrating that talent development can drive economic transformation in regions across the U.S.  WIRED initiatives bring together state, local and federal entities; academic institutions (including K-12, community colleges and universities); business and industry; and other partners to address the challenges associated with building a globally competitive and prepared workforce.  Visit WIRED to learn more about the 39 participating regions across the country.
